A Book Review, and a Foreign Edition

I read a fabulous book between bouts of draft polishing. The book is 'Captured, by Helen Kirkman. It's a Harlequin Historical, so you can track it down via eHarlequin or the Amazons if you're interested in a good historical read. It's a story that needs to be savoured word for word. The text is lush and evocative, Boda wonderful from the moment Rosamund sees him lying almost dead on the ground on page one. I loved the layering. The lies they'd both lived, their reasons, the self blame and desolation and hope rising over it all. Fabulous stuff. One for the keeper shelf, definitely.

I was also greatly impressed with such a fabulous opening page, I have to admit. As a writer, I can't help noticing things like that. First pages are hard. I often rewrite those opening lines fifty, even a hundred times.

I've been really busy, working on the final stages of my book polishing in readiness to handing it in. It's getting closer, closer and I expect to see it off into cyberspace by its deadline Thursday. So it was lovely to receive copies of the Japanese edition of 'Her Millionaire Boss' in the mail this week, even if the post man did cram the package into the mail box and smoosh the sides of the books a little.

Here's the pic. It's restful, isn't it?
